Our client is a well established and regarded fund manager in the alternatives space. The Institutional Distribution Manager supports institutional capital raising, investment partner engagement and institutional client activities. The role regularly participates in investor and consultant meetings, helps coordinate relationships with global investment managers and takes ownership of substantive information requests and agreed follow-up.

Working closely with the Executive Chair, Chief Executive Officer and broader distribution team, the role engages with superannuation funds, investment consultants, insurers and other institutional investors. It combines investment knowledge, commercial judgement and relationship skills to help progress opportunities from initial interest through due diligence and investment.

The manager works with the Institutional Sales Associate to translate commercial priorities into well-organised meetings, materials and actions. The role requires confidence dealing with external stakeholders, the ability to manage competing demands and a practical approach to getting work completed.

Key Responsibilities

Institutional Engagement and Business Development

  • Support institutional distribution plans by researching investor priorities, portfolio requirements, consultant coverage and manager selection processes.
  • Regularly attend institutional investor and consultant meetings and roadshows, supporting senior colleagues and leading agreed discussions, presentations and follow-up.
  • Develop meeting briefs and tailored proposals that connect an investment strategy’s characteristics with the investor’s stated needs.
  • Progress assigned opportunities through the sales pipeline, identifying information gaps, decision milestones and next steps with senior distribution colleagues.

Investment Manager Relationships and Coordination

  • Help manage day-to-day relationships with relevant investment partners, coordinating distribution priorities, information requirements and agreed deliverables.
  • Develop roadshow objectives, investor targeting and meeting content with senior distribution colleagues and investment managers; brief visiting managers before meetings.
  • Coordinate substantive follow-up after manager visits and share investor feedback, objections and market insights to inform future engagement.
  • Support regular partner discussions and distribution updates, including activity summaries, pipeline developments and outstanding requests; escalate commercial matters to senior management.

Institutional Client Engagement and Complex Requests

  • Take ownership of higher-level institutional requests requiring investment knowledge, judgement or coordination across investment managers and internal specialists.
  • Coordinate accurate responses on investment strategy, performance, portfolio positioning, risk and mandate requirements, obtaining specialist review where required.
  • Support selected client review meetings by shaping agendas, preparing relevant materials and coordinating responses and agreed actions.
  • Work with operations and relevant service providers on substantive onboarding or mandate implementation questions, maintaining clear communication and escalating issues requiring approval.

Investment Materials and Due Diligence

  • Develop and review institutional pitch decks, proposals, requests for proposals and due diligence responses, tailoring the narrative and evidence to the audience.
  • Coordinate investment manager and internal input, check consistency across source materials and ensure responses meet agreed deadlines.
  • Validate investment information with relevant specialists and obtain the appropriate internal review and approval before external distribution.
  • Support fund launches and consultant research activity by coordinating product information, investment partner input and institutional presentation requirements.

Sales Execution and Team Coordination

  • Maintain ownership of next steps for assigned opportunities and provide accurate pipeline updates, meeting outcomes and recommendations to senior distribution colleagues.
  • Brief the Institutional Sales Associate on scheduling, travel, CRM and document requirements, confirming priorities, responsibilities and deadlines.
  • Provide complete meeting notes and commercial context for CRM updates; check that opportunity stages, expected timing and follow-up actions remain accurate.
  • Coordinate assigned distribution projects, monitor progress and resolve obstacles with relevant teams while maintaining appropriate confidentiality and approval discipline.

Experience and Capabilities

  • Demonstrated experience in institutional distribution, investment consulting, institutional client management or a comparable funds management role, with the ability to manage substantive work independently.
  • Sound understanding of investment strategies, portfolio characteristics and fund structures, and the ability to explain investment information clearly.
  • Familiarity with institutional decision-making, investment consultant research and the due diligence and manager selection cycle.
  • Confidence building relationships with investors, consultants and investment managers, participating in meetings and presenting to professional audiences.
  • Strong writing, analytical and project coordination skills, including experience producing presentations, proposals or due diligence responses.
  • Commercial judgement, attention to detail and the ability to prioritise, escalate appropriately and follow commitments through to completion.
  • Proficiency in PowerPoint, Excel and CRM systems; relevant tertiary qualifications are desirable. Willingness to travel regularly domestically and internationally as required.

Measures of Success

  • Productive institutional meetings, relevant follow-up and measurable progress against agreed opportunity and engagement plans.
  • Responsive investment partner coordination, clear communication and reliable completion of agreed deliverables.
  • Accurate and timely resolution of complex requests, supported by appropriate specialist input and approvals.
  • High-quality proposals and presentations, dependable pipeline information and effective coordination with the associate and broader team.

This role will suit a candidate who can work within a closely knit team environment and is highly self-motivated. You will work with multiple stakeholders so you need to be someone who enjoys interacting with others. You will be naturally aligned to working with other motivated individuals.
